How could anyone possibly stay awake through that kind of talk?
While drawing stick figures in class, our heroes fall asleep, and it is your job to guide them through the worlds they created within their notebooks.
Fight through three levels of action, finding and using weapons along the way to help you proceed against the evil stick figures.
Beware the boss who awaits at the end of the third level! He may be slow, but he is not vulnerable to most ordinary attacks, and he calls his minions for help.
To control your character, only three buttons and directional controls are used. Using any directional control causes the player to move in that direction.
The attack control causes the player to punch a short distance in front of itself or use a weapon if one is being carried.
The pick up control causes the player to pick up any nearby weapons, which may either be lying on the ground or attached to a nearby enemy. If the pick up button is pushed while a directional control is being held down, the player will try to pick up a certain type of weapon first. An indicator will appear under the player's health bar when a weapon is nearby, indicating which weapons are currently available and which direction can be used to pick up each.
The drop control causes any currently carried weapon to be dropped.
Joysticks may also be used and are highly recommended.
The F 5-8 keys can be used to adjust Notebook Ninja's resolution. The F9 key toggles fullscreen mode on and off.
As the name may suggest, this is the main menu of Notebook Ninja. From here you can select the following:
Starts a single-player game on the first level of Notebook Ninja.
Starts a two-player cooperative game on the first level of Notebook Ninja. Player 1 controls the dark blue stick figure, and player 2 controls the dark red stick figure.
View the brilliant creative minds that made Notebook Ninja.
Exits Notebook Ninja. It is definitely not a good idea to select this option. I am not sure why it even exists.
You will see this menu when you pause the game.
Return to your game of Notebook Ninja that is currently in progress.
Restart the current level. Do this if you are a sissy and are doing badly in the level.
Returns to the main menu of Notebook Ninja. Your current progress in the game will be lost.
If you are good at Notebook Ninja, you will never see this menu. For the rest of you wussies out there:
Restart the current level.
Returns to the main menu of Notebook Ninja. Your current progress in the game will be lost.
A pen at the top of the screen indicates health for each player. As you become weaker, the pen will run out of ink. Look for various objects to refill your ink supply to regain health.
Health items can be found laying on the ground. Walk over a health item to restore some of your stick figure's health.
| Small Ink | ![]() | The pen restores only a small fraction of your health. |
|---|---|---|
| Medium Ink | ![]() | The ink cartridge restores half of your health. |
| Large Ink | ![]() | The bottle of ink restores all of your health. |
Obstacles can be seen throughout each level. They come in many different sizes and types. Some obstacles can be destroyed by being hit, and may leave health items behind.
| Stick | The stick hits further and harder than a punch. You can even get one by removing the arm from a living enemy if you're careful. | |
|---|---|---|
| Head | The head is a projectile weapon. When thrown, it will fly in a straight line until it hits something or drops to the ground. A well-thrown head is enough to kill many kinds of enemies. | |
| Bazooka | The bazooka is the most powerful weapon available. If you manage to pick up an entire dead body (that's a dead body with a head, two arms, and two legs), it will be carried over your shoulder ready to be fired as a bazooka. It will not only cause significant damage to anything it hits, but anything nearby will be hurt as well, so be sure to give yourself plenty of room. |
